Giving Back

As passionate believers in the idea of giving back, Kamtec Group is a proud member of the Pledge 1% movement and has been since the very inception of our company.  Pledge 1% is a global movement that inspires, educates, and empowers organisations to be a force for good by encouraging and challenging companies to pledge 1% of equity, product or employee time to charitable causes and helping the less fortunate in our community as well as communities all over the world.

Kamtec Group has made the pledge to donate at least 1% of our revenue and time to helping others.  By making the pledge at the very beginning of our company’s journey, we of course plan to increase our contributions and overall impact year on year as our business continues to grow and diversify.  Our decision to do this and our choice of charities that we donate to have been guided and shaped by the teaching of the Effective Altruism movement.

Effective Altruism is a philosophical and social movement that is focused around answering one simple question: How can we best help others?  Popularised widely by Australian Philosopher Dr. Peter Singer, the central idea is to convince us to look at charitable donations in the same way we look at purchasing a new computer, car, or appliance; how do we get the best value for our money or ‘bang for buck’?

Due to the limits of our resources, it is of great importance that we use them wisely.  Effective Altruism is the project of using evidence and reason to find the most promising causes to work on and taking action, by using our time and money to do the most good we can and ensuring that our dollars go as far as possible.

In our view, the best way for us to ensure our company donations make the greatest amount of impact is by pledging our contributions to The Life You Can Save organisation whose mission is to make ‘smart giving simple’ by actively curating charities and non-profits that save or improve the most lives per dollar.  Some of these charities include the Fred Hollows Foundation, Hellen Keller International and Against Malaria Foundation.

To find out more, please visit The Life You Can Save Australia or click here to download Peter Singer’s world renown book of the same name which makes the case on why we should care about helping those living in extreme poverty, and how easy it is to improve or save lives through effective giving.
